ARE YOU WAKING UP TIRED FROM SLEEP EVERYDAY
1 out of 3 people suffer from mild insomnia, its either you are not able to fall asleep or you have disturbed sleep that keeps you up throughout the night. Let’s look at why it is important to have quality sleep.
1. SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND
Well. All we want to do in life is turn up at work or at a social event like a magical unicorn and shine brightly. But what happens if your phone is doing the shinning and taking away that job from you. The light from your phone or tablet affects your brain’s ability to switch off and fall asleep. Making it harder for you to get into a deep sleep that involves rapid eye movement.
2. WHAT’S THIS CREEPY EYE MOVEMENT ABOUT?
Nope. This is not a close-up shot of you as the star of a horror movie while waiting for that moment where you wake up and we scream. This is when your brain goes into such a deep state of sleep that your eyes start to do rapid eye movement called REM. It has been linked to show this is where your brain goes into a dream state.
3. DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME
Daydreaming is not good cause your experience in the classroom being hit by a duster would have taught you that. But dreaming at night is amazing because your body goes into a restorative state. Your cells in your body are rejuvenated as you enjoy a movie in your mind. How cool is that? Unless you are in your own horror dream, where you end up going to school naked. Don’t worry it’s not peculiar to you its quite a common actually.
4. THE NAKED TRUTH
You stand in front of the mirror and noticed that you have put on weight. If you look at all your habits you may realize there is a sudden increase in snacking and calorie consumption. Recent studies have indicated this may be the cause of sleep deprivation. Go to bed early and switch off the phone and telly hours before bedtime. Reach for a book, some find it easier to transition to bedtime this way.
5. A HEARTY SERVING OF SLEEP FOR A HEALTHY BODY
Your heart may go on an adrenaline pumping mode so more blood reaches to keep you alert. This extra blood pumping can cause heart-related diseases like heart attacks and strokes. Sleep regulates hormones to produce HGH ( Human Growth Hormone ) to repair muscles and bones. It also helps your skin to not aggravate existing skin conditions like eczema, pimples, and psoriasis. Sleep also protects bone marrow as an essential health sustaining mechanism which contains our body immune cells.
6. FATAL ACCIDENTS
It is estimated that nearly 6000 fatal accidents are caused by drowsy driving every year in the US alone. The signs of drowsy driving are as follows, you drift from your lane, miss your exits, yawning and blinking frequently and you don’t remember the last few km’s that you have driven. If you experience any of these, it is most likely that you have a sleep disorder that is being left untreated. If you are on sleep medication do not drive.
7. THE CREATIVE GENIUS IN YOU
Surely you are not Leonardo Da Vinci but you have something to offer to the world that’s uniquely you. Maybe a story to tell or a device that can change peoples health. There are countless possibilities for you that can make a difference in people’s lives. A stage called hypnagogia tosses all the societal rules aside in this state and brings in random images and thoughts that fuel creativity. You want to do things differently and make real changes, this is where it begins. Who knew to create a masterpiece like the Sistine chapel begins with sleep.
