Steamed Chicken with Rice


1 Ayam Kampung (Free Range Chicken), about 800g
2cm of Ginger, Grated
2 Cloves of Garlic, Grated
1.5 Teaspoons of Salt
1 Teaspoon of White Pepper
1 Tablespoon of Sesame Oil
6 Spring Onions
2 Cups of Brown Rice
4 Cups of Water
Serve this with a side of Chili Oil to get an extra kick!


1. Wash rice until clean and set aside
2. In a bowl, add in grated ginger, garlic along with salt, pepper, sesamee oil and normal oil. Marinate the whole chicken with the mixture and rub the marinate in the cavities
3.Stuff the spring onion in the cavities of the chicken
4. In a Rice Cooker or Heavy Based Pot , add in the washed rice, the water then place the chicken on top and set to cook for 30 minutes or until chicken is cooked and falling off bones.
5.When cooked, serve in a bowl and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve with a side of cut chillies.



Recently, we made this really delicious Steamed Chicken with Rice and we all loved it !
It’s super simple and has only a few ingredients, but is packed with lots flavor. The chicken is cooked to perfection making it tender, juicy and falls off the bone. You can serve this meal with a side of chili oil to compliment the dish, they go really well together. Garnish with a little coriander leaves and you are good to go.
