DBI recently had a conversation with the founder of Kind Kones Serina Bajaj on how mindful eating can be positive to your mind, body and planet. This is what she has to say.
Q: What does “mindful eating” mean to you?
Q: How does mindful eating impact your mind and in turn transfers to health?
S: Personally – when I take care of what I put into my body, I feel better emotionally and physically. I feel less agitated in general and often feel more energized. I’m definitely more productive with work as well as with my kids.
Q: Can the way we eat change the course of the state of our climate is in today?
S: Definitely. It’s well known that industrial agriculture is one of the most significant sources of climate change with the most damaging aspect being large scale animal production like cattle farming while not forgetting also the dairy industry. As a result, carbon emissions increase significantly with subsequent adverse impact to the environment. We should all do our part to reduce our carbon footprints and we can certainly do so through conscious consumption behavior such as reducing meat and dairy intake.
Q: As a business how do you make sure that health to be a priority in the ice creams you produce?
S: We go a step further than being a vegan brand. We focus on using only real food ingredients in our ice creams with nothing artificial. We don’t add any preservative, additive, emulsifiers, artificial coloring & flavoring – so you can eat our ice cream guilt free!
Q: How do you think your business positively impact the planet ?
S: By being a vegan brand, we believe we are encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprints to a certain degree by default – with every cone! We are doing no harm to animals and we also minimize the use of plastic as much as we can at Kind Kones. We try our best to do our part to contribute to the betterment of our precious planet.
Q: Lastly what is Kind Kones doing that other businesses can model after to be more sustainable?
S: We believe that doing even a little can still go a long way. We are inclusive. We are not judgmental. For a business to sustain, its impossible to be totally zero-waste. We simply can’t function. But we try to run as much of a reduce-waste operation as we can while inevitably keeping cost and practicality in mind. Sustainability is definitely the forefront of Kind Kones brand essence and I believe we are taking steps in the right direction towards it.
